Another college blog? Fro
m a quick Google search, there are 2.79 trillion hits for “college” blogs, 118 million hits for “college admissions” blogs, and 110 million hits for “college counseling” blogs. This is in addition to the countless Facebook/Twitter/Instagram/LinkedIn etc pages dedicated to this field. We are inundated with information, and it seems like many cover the same content. Why do we need another one? The truth is, we don’t.
But, I’m going to start one anyway. Ever since I was an elementary schooler, I’ve enjoyed writing. I’ve kept journals since high school as a way to catalog my thoughts and organize ideas. I have a stack of notepads and sticky notes in every room. I enjoy sharing my reflections with others.
Also, I know that not everyone who visits my website will hire me, but I want to be a service to all. By providing accurate, succinct, and timely information, I hope to be a resource you can trust and share with others. Hopefully one day we will meet in person or via Zoom. But if not, this platform can be a space for us to connect.
So what will this college blog entail? For those of you who receive the Grand Fit Newsletter, you are familiar with the GRAND reports. These brief, one-pagers highlight colleges that I recently visited. The reports explain what makes each a GRAND school, and I comment on the type of student who would be successful on this campus. I plan to revisit some of the schools on the blog, while also featuring campuses that never made it to the newsletter. Additionally, I will share some of my favorite resources, and pertinent information related to the current trends in admissions (test-optional schools, STEM careers, financial aid/scholarships, etc).
